Secrets of Franchising
By Indigenous Stock Exchange
Owen Jarvis leader of the UK Community Action Network's social franchising strategy, Beanstalk, recently visited Australia on a Churchill Scholarship. He had some interesting information that he passed on to a number of groups including Balkanu and Goolarri Media in Cairns. The ISX hopes to pass on more learnings from the UK experience.
Beanstalk is the Community Action Network's national programme to assist social enterprises to grow through enabling third parties to replicate their businesses.
Between now and March 2006, Beanstalk will be working with a range of social enterprises to implement a model of growth through franchising capable of delivering both business growth and significant social dividends.
Known as "social franchising", the model is built around best practice in both the private sector and the social economy. Our aim is to help social enterprises to grow, diversify and become more profitable, without requiring them to find the investment needed to employ new staff, find bigger premises and expand the management team.
By enabling other organisations to roll-out a proven social enterprise, our aim is also to give opportunities to people in disadvantaged communities and deprived areas to set up their own successful social enterprises.
