Volunteer Positions

Volunteers to help restore ship

Closing date: 18 September 2009

Region: NSW - Sydney
Salary: NA

General and specific duties from chipping, painting, electrical, engineering, woodwork, welding etc.
The MV Cape Don is a former lightship/ lighthouse tender that used to service the lighthouses along the West Australian coast. Built in 1963, the ship has 50 cabins and retains all the elegance of years gone buy.
Many indigenous coastal communities would remember her visits from the 1960s to the late 80s. The MV Cape Don retired after lighthouse automation and was destined to become a dive wreck off the NSW mid-coast when she was bought and placed in a trust for restoration.
At present she is being restored in Sydney at the Old Coal Loader Wharf at Balls Head, Waverton.
Once the restoration is complete the ship will go into service as a humanitarian vessel - hopefully used for the benefit of remote communities and, both in Australia and nearby.
