My background

Dot West is currently the head of Productions and Business Develpment with Goolarri Media in Broome who operate an open narrowcast television station, community radio station, productions, events management, music development, graphics, IT and are a Registered Training Organisation providing training in radio, screen and multi media. Dot has been a Screenwest board member since 2003 and currently sits on the board of Indigenous Screen Australia and the Australian International Documentary Conference. Dot won the 2005 Tudawali award for her contribution to Indigenous Media.

Biography

Dot West has a long media history within the Kimberley and has played a major role in the training and development of Indigenous media on a national level. Dot first became involved in media at the age of 15 in 1975 with Aboriginal Publications producers of the glossy magazine 'Identity' and monthly newspaper 'Forum'. After a couple of years she moved to the Kimberley region. It wasn't until 1987 in Kununurra that she became reunited with Indigenous media initially with radio before moving into other streams including film and television. Dot has assisted the growth and development of Indigenous media across all streams.
