Art and Childrens Books My backgroundDuring my childhood growing up in the Wandering Mission I took up art and developed an incredible passion and love for this form of expression. I began painting bush sceneries and then as time progressed I began experimenting with other visual artforms. Often people ask me what colours I use in my work and i say "Just look around you". I use the colours that I see around me every day and colours that I think work together. I have now been painting for over 40 years and am still discovering other ways of expressing myself through visual art. My passions
Batik Art BiographyI was born in Yalgoo but at an early age was taken away from parents and sent to Wandering Mission run by missionary priests and nuns. I always loved drawing and painting as a child but after leaving the mission was too busy bringing up my four children to do much outside work. Then I moved to Broome and my children started going to senior shcool so I had more time to do art work. Since then I have illustrated three children's books for Magabala Books in conjunction with Aboriginal writer's. One of these books won the Crichton Award and another the Premier's Award for WA. I am now working on my fourth book. I have also produced and sold a number of paintings unconnected with books.
