Peter Lain works indefatigably for Aboriginal Australia as an expert marketing consultant and commercial advisor.

He has been a tower of strength behind the scenes of the ISX and has ensured that particularly our public affairs forum is a major part of our website attracting many thousands of visits a month.

The great thing about Peter is that he does not compromise his work to suit a particular perspective or community.

He knows marketing and commercial business very well and he knows what will work in small, medium and large business and what won't.

He is also very adept in assessing Aboriginal communities potential commercial opportunities. I find the work Peter does a welcome relief to the sort of consulting that is increasingly coming from the top end of town consultancy firms where there are generally graduate economists and MBAs who have frequently never been behind a shop counter or had much practical experience of life.

Peter combines rigour and practicality and above all he is an honest person who mostly works pro bono for Aboriginal communities. His usual fee is simply minimal travel and project related expenses.

STATEMENT FROM PETER LAIN
I am over 65 and have been phasing my work as Marketing Consultant back to deal mainly with clients I have worked well with over the 16 or more years I have run my business.

This should allow me more time to work with some of my other interests such as Indigenous affairs, hence my involvement with ISX

Biography

BY PETER LAIN

I spent more than ten years of my early working life in the Advertising Agency business. I am a Fellow and lifetime member of the Advertising Institute Of Australia with a Diploma and a certificate.

In the A.C.T. I was a Director of a Pharmaceutical Wholesaling and Warehousing business, Theta (later becoming CPS, before finally being taken over by API). This was in addition to the role of Marketing Manager of Canberra & Southern Districts Pharmacy Marketing (otherwise known as Marchem).

This was followed by four more years in the Pharmaceutical Industry in various roles, such as Sales Manager, General Manager and Marketing Director. I was also a manager, of some of Retail Pharmacies' biggest and best-known 'Banner Groups' in their formative years.

I was Marketing manager of DELVA, a Division, for Reckitt & Colman, a major international Manufacturing company.

After nine years with them the division was sold. I then started my own, present-day, Marketing Consulting Business.

Since then I have worked on consulting projects in a wide variety of industries and roles, including the position of project coordinator for Faulding, for six months (launching Cenovis into Pharmacy).

During much of this period it gradually evolved into a situation where a third of the work was on projects assisted by the State Government Department Of State & Regional Development.

This has covered the complete spectrum of clients from Retailing/Wholesaling through to Material/Service Supply.
