Although the event is all about glitz, glamour and fun entertainment the true value of Kimberley Girl lies in the important social benefits it will deliver to the contestants and audience members.

Some of the social benefits Kimberley Girl delivers include:

• Increasing entrants self esteem and self confidence.
• Empowering young women to break out of their ‘comfort zone’ and participate in projects which interest them.
• Creatiing role-models in our community.
• Creating positive social interaction between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
• Building confidence for career development.
• Create a sense of achievement and pride among entrants.
• Teaching valuable grooming and deportment skills.

The 2004 winner, Ms Shulyn Hunter received a cash prize of $500.00, clothing vouchers at local retailers and a photographic shoot with Yaja Hadry's from No5. Gallery, Broome. More importantly Shulyn has become a role-model in the community by:

• Attending the National Youth Conference in Canberra 2004.
• Gaininig employment with the Kimberley Development Commission.
• being short listed for a PR role with the David Wirrupunda Foundation
• winning the 2005 NAIDOC-Youth of the Year award.
• Presenting at the NAIDOC Awards 2005.
• being Short-listed to appear on the Jamie Durie’s television show.
• continuing to play an active role in the community advocating for Indigenous youth.

Kimberley Girl 2005 is bigger, better and is reaching out across the entire region and Goolarri Media is looking for the support of organizations who believe in the social benefits it can deliver for female Indigenous youth.

The Broome Aboriginal Media Association project manages this event on behalf of the community as part of our cultural and social obligations. We are seeking modest financial assistance to help grow this exciting event.

Congratulations to the 2005 Kimberley girl winner Emily Jones (from Kununurra), and to Danielle Bangmorra (Derby) and Nathalie Ishiguchi (Broome) who came second and third respectively.

Special mentions also to Talissa Kinley (Broome) who won the "Most Photogenic" award and Carlee Hedlam (Derby) who won the "Judges award".
